The Diocese of Parramatta was founded in 1986. It is said that this Diocese has the largest concentration of Indigenous Peoples in Australia.
The Aboriginal Catholic Ministry (ACM) is the official agency of the Parramatta Catholic Diocese to provide for the spiritual care and enrichment of Aboriginal Peoples in the area,in an Aboriginal way under the decision-making and leadership of the Aboriginal people. The present ACM has an Aboriginal committee of fifteen members.
Nine different, extended,Aboriginal families are represented on the Committee. Other members of the committee include a Redemptorist priest, 2 counsellors and volunteers who support with bookkeeping and general assistance where needed.
